Essential Media List

Friday Night Lights

This is one of my all time favorite television series. I have watched it so many times, yet I never seem to get tired of it. The show follows a football coach’s endeavors to make his team(s) the best, while having a profound impact on their lives. I would have to say this is an essential because it has influenced me in various ways, from the way I perceive people, football and my personality. I find this show to be uplifting and somewhat realistic, so if you’re looking for wholesome, grounded, morally fueled show I’d encourage you to check out Friday Night Lights.

8tracks is a site full of “user-curated playlists consisting of at least 8 tracks” (Wikipedia). This site is great because it allows you to individualize playlists. I love music and have made plenty of playlists on this site, so I can say on a first hand how exciting it is when others listen and like your playlists. It’s also a great place for unknown artists to make a name for themselves.

The Kings of Summer

In terms of movies this is one of my favorites. I’ve seen it plenty of times and even did a project on it. It is an uncommon take on a coming of age story, where three boys run away in order to assert their independence. I specifically love this film because of the different camera shots and the use of the nature. I realized that I appreciated this film so much more after I learned all the behind the scenes elements.

Tumblr for me is a place where I can express my feelings and thoughts through what I reblog. Similarly to wordpress, it is a place where I can express myself completely and call it my little corner of the Internet. I think this is a good way for people to find out more about others because everything is personal and individualized.

The 1975

I love music and this is one of my favorite bands. They are an indie-pop band from the UK that has recently started to garner more fans. I think a big reason that I like I like the idea of loving a band that was is so underrated and unknown. My opinion on them has not changed yet it’s hard to fight my instinct to not like something mainstream. I also consider myself a big lyric person, and by this I mean that I place a big emphasis on lyrics because that’s where I think all the emotion is.
